A vendor master record is created for each business partner from whom goods or services are purchased. It is possible to create separate business partners corresponding to the specific function that the partner plays in the procurement process. Partners is an active vendor which has a valid vendor master record in the system. Depending upon the transaction being process, the system will propose the appropriate partner for this function, if applicable. If no partner exists, the VD (main Vendor) is proposed. Allowed partner roles are defined per Purchasing level (P-org). Each user department has its own view of a material master. Which views of a material master are possible is determined on the basis of material type. The views of material master records that can be maintained/displayed can be determined for each user. Users can specify which views they obtain during material master record maintenance. The data in some views requires the specification of the organizational units for which this data is maintained. The views that are available for a particular material are dependent upon the material type that has been defined for that material. The user has a further option to select a sub-set of these views for maintenance. A standard sequence is determined for the data screens of the main work level. This standard sequence can be interrupted by variable branching between the screens of the main work level. The screens for the additional data level can be selected using the details menu. At any point during maintenance, the user may exit from a view and be given the option of saving the data. Views may not be maintained (displayed or changed) unless they have previously been created. In this case the material record must be EXTENDED to add the additional data view(s) before further processing.
