Shanghai, Hu for short, is situated on the estuary of Yangtze River of China. It is the largest industrial city in China. Covering an area of 5,800 square kilometers , Shanghai has a population of 18.7million, including 2 million floating population. Todays Shanghai is a multi-cultural metropolis with both modern and traditional Chinese features. Shanghai shows off every aspect of her unique glamour. Shanghai Oriental Pearl TV Tower was completed on Oct. 1, 1994. It is 468 m high, being the highest in Asia and the third highest in the world, only next the TV towers in Toronto in Canada and Moscow in Russia. It stands opposite to the bund on the west bank.. The structure of the tower consists of 11 spheres, different in sizes and arranged at different levels, hanging from the sky down to the green lawns. The Bund is one of the symbols of Shanghai. Located along the Huangpu River, the Bund shows off Shanghai’s outstanding foreign buildings, most of which were erected before 1937. To the Europeans, the Bund was Shanghai’s answer to Wall Street. Jade Buddha Temple, is the most famous Buddhist temple in Shanghai. It houses a 1.9-metre-tall jade statue of Buddha carved out of a single piece jade whose color is lustrously and spotlessly white. The look of the figure is dignified with a kind face. Besides this rare treasure in the world. Yuyuan Garden is a famous classical garden located in Anren Jie, Shanghai. The garden was finished in 1577 by a government officer of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) named Pan Yunduan. Yu in Chinese means pleasing and satisfying, and this garden was specially built for Pans parents as a place for them to enjoy a tranquil and happy time in their old age. Shanghai food tends to be heavier than the Cantonese variety and takes slightly longer to prepare. Much of the food is fried and there is a greater use of sesame oil and vinegar.
