Biological Wastewater Treatment Processes;7.3.4 Oxidation Ditch Systems;The key design factors in these systems relate to the type of aeration that is to be provided. It is normal to design for a 1 ft/s (0.3 m/s) midchannel velocity in order to prevent solids deposition. The ditch system is particularly amenable to those cases where both BOD and nitrogen removal are desired. Both reactions can be achieved in the same basin by alternating aerobic and anoxic zones, as shown in Fig. 7.18. ;Orbal氧化沟图;;A typical oxidation ditch aeration basin consists of a single channel or multiple interconnected channels, as shown in Fig. 7.19. ;7.3.5 Intermittently Aerated and Decanted Systems;In using a single vessel, these processes and operations are simply timed sequences.
