Tomb-Sweeping Day literally means clear (Qing) and bright (Ming), this Chinese festival falls in March 14th of the lunar calendar. Origin Qing Ming is popularly associated with Jie Zi Zhui(介子椎). Legend has it that Jie saved his starving lord’s life by serving a piece of his own leg. But he declines the invitation when the lord (晋文公)becomes a ruler and escapes to a mountain with his mother. The lord sets the forest on fire to force Jie out, but Jie and his mother burnt to death on a willow柳树. The lord ordered all fires in every home to be put out on the anniversary of Jies death.
