* * * * * * * PVT is provided by Nyloc bolts and non-circular bolts for example. The reason to use these bolts is to prevent the screw from unscrewing itself, even if the torque/friction under bolt head is lost. Often used on safety critical joints, for example seatbelts. The PVT does not contribute to the clamping force!! If we have 10 Nm PVT and a final target of 20 Nm only 10 Nm will contribute to the clamping force. This might require a compensation, to add the PVT to the final target. * * * * * Low grade fasteners ”yield” at a lower % of the ultimate failure load than high grade fasteners. Beyond the yield point, the fastener is permanently elongated. Each time the fastener is loaded beyond its yield point it is further elongated. This results either in total loss of clamping force or the failure of the fastener. * * * If you increase the quality of the bolt you can decrease the size of the bolt. Any questions?
