Rwandan Genocide Rwandan genocide , also known as the Rwandan civil war occurred in April 6, 1994 to mid-June 1994, Hutu against Tutsi and Hutu moderates large organized genocide massacre, killing 0.8-1million deaths, the death toll of more than 20% of the total population at that time. Background Rwanda , “the kingdom of thousands of hills”, is located in central Africa .It is a backward agriculture country. Hutu and Tutsi accounted for 99% of the total population .Hutu accounted for 85% while Tutsi accounted for 14%. Process In 1990, the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), a rebel group composed mostly of Tutsi refugees, invaded northern Rwanda from Uganda in an attempt to defeat the Hutu-leading government. They began the Rwandan Civil War, with support from Africa France and Uganda. Process April 6,1996, the plane carrying Rwandan President and Burundian President was shot down near Kigali, the Rwandan capital , and both president died. It aroused Hutu bloody revenge against Tutsi . Process The genocide had been planned by members of the Hutu power group known as the Akazu, many of whom occupied positions at top levels of the national government. 0.8~1million people died in this massacre. Process In July, the RPF and Ugandas army invaded into Rwanda capital Kigali, beating Hutu government. 200 million Hutu people ,including some killing participants, fled to the neighboring countries :Burundi, Tanzania, Uganda and Zaire. International react France, Canada,?Israel, the Netherlands?and Ireland?also provided some?assistance.Red Cross,?Doctors Without Borders?and other international?relief organizations?without fear of?gunfire?reach?local?places to rescue?civilians.
