An Analysis of Product Design Based on Traditional Chinese Culture

Abstract: The article, started with the analysis of the development situation of product design based on traditional Chinese culture, has comprehensively described the connotation of culture and design, along with the relationship between culture and design, and has focused on the application of traditional culture in product design, including the relationship between Chinese element symbols and product form, as well as the link between traditional philosophy and product form. Finally, a conclusion is drawn from examples, which shows the inspiration point as well as the creative point in traditional cultural product design.
Introduction
Culture is the core of product design, and the collision and integration of different cultures endow the product design with new requirements. In order to make a product survive in the fierce global competition, designers must understand the cultural backgrounds and cultural differences of varied product users, and take into consideration the range of culture and the current situation in product design. The development of industrial design in our country has gone on no longer than 25 years, which means we are still in the exploration and development stage. Sometimes we see the western designers do well in applying Chinese elements in their products, but in fact, they don’t have a deeper cultural understanding than we do.
