Peggy 2009120705 Katherine Ann Porter was a celebrated American journalist, essayist, short story writer and novelist. All of porter’s fictions are produced with prudence and precision. In these fictions the carefully designed structure ,scrupulously depicted characters ,and rich and real details impress the reader and critics deeply. She is regarded as a stylist. 1890 born in Indian Creek Texas as Callie Russell Porter. 1891 ~1901 lived with her grandmother,Catherine Ann Porter, in Kyle Texas. 1901~ 1905 Harrison took his children to visit relatives throughout Texas and southern Louisiana. In 1904 she went to Thomas school and got a year of post-grammar school education. 1906 ~1915 left home and married John Hebnry Koontz and divorced in 1915. 1914~1916 worked as an actress and a singer. 1917 began writing for Fort Woth Critics 1918 wrote for Rocky Mountain News 1919 moved to Greenwich village in NYC and did ghost writing, 1920 went to work for a magazine publisher in Mexico. 1920 ~1930 traveled back and forth between Mexico and NYC, began publishing short stories and essays. 1926 married Ernest Stock but divorced in 1927 Writing career took off 1930s spent several years in Europe In 1930 to 1938 married Eugene Pressley. In 1938 ~1942married Albert Russell Erskine 1948 -1958 taught at Stanford University, University of Michigan and University of Texas. 1962 published her only novel Ship of Fools. 1966 awarded the Pulitzer Prize and National book award for book Collected stories of Katherine Anne Porter 1977 Never ending Wrong 1980 Died in Silver Spring ,Maryland on Sept. 18 at the age 90. Anne Porter said: “everything I ever wrote in the way of fiction is based very securely on something real in life.” Her travels gave her a diverse pool of inspiration Miranda’s stories
