Speech on Hitler’s Invasion of the U.S.S.R ---Winston Churchill Brief Introduction of World War II World War II or the Second World War, was a worldwide military conflict which lasted from 1939 to 1945. World War II was the amalgamation（合称 ）of two conflicts, one starting in Asia as the Second Sino-Japanese War and the other beginning in Europe with the Invasion of Poland. This global conflict split a majority of the worlds nations into two opposing camps: the Allies（协约国） and the Axis(轴心国). In 1945-05,German surrendered at discretion. In 1945-08-15, Japan surrendered at discretion Brief Introduction of Winston Churchill Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill (1874-1965) grew up as the son of a British noble. He attended private school from age 7, and entered Harrow(哈罗公学 )in 1888. He was neither happy nor successful at school. Later he entered Sandhurst Royal Military College(桑赫斯特皇家军事学院) in 1893 after 3 attempts to pass the entrance test. He joined the army in 1895. In 1900, he was elected to the House of Commons as a conservative（保守党下议院议员). In 1904, he joined the Liberal Party(自由党) and became the President of the Board of Trade (贸易大臣). During 1906-1908, he served as Under Secretary of State for the Colonies（殖民部次官). During World War I, he served in the army in France. During 1918-1921, He was Secretary of State for War （陆军大臣). During 1924-1929, Chancellor of the Exchequer（财政大臣） When World War Ⅱ broke out, he was nominated as First Lord of Admiralty（被任命为海军大臣). From 1940-1945 to 1951-1955, he was Prime Minister, and was widely regarded as Britain’s greatest 20th century statesman.
