How to read this Person? Agatha Christie ----a mysterious woman Agatha Christie Agatha Christie is known throughout the world as the Queen of Crime. Her books have sold over a billion copies in English with another billion in 100 foreign language, outsold only by the Bible and Shakespeare. She is the author of 80 crime novels and short story collections, 19 plays, and six novels written under the name of Marry Westmacott. Agatha Christie was born in Torquay in 1890, in the county of Devon. During World War I she worked in a Red Cross Hospital in Torquay as a hospital dispenser, which gave her knowledge of poisons. It was to be useful when she started writing mysteries. Christies first detective novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, In it she created Hercule Poirot, the little Belgian detective who was destined to become the most popular detective in crime fiction since Sherlock Holmes. Obviously, we have to mention Miss Marple, as characters in the novels, she is an elderly spinster, Marple often relied on her feminine sensitivity and empathy to solve crimes. Marple was featured in 17 novels, the first being Murder at the Vicarage (1930) and the last Sleeping Murder (1977). She was reportedly based on the authors own grandmother. Her books made her one of the most famous and an innovative writer in this time. Several of her works were made into successful feature films, among the most popular is The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (1926), this is the best-selling books of all time. Death on the Nile (1937) and Murder on the Orient Express (1974) was another famous book of Agatha Christie. And it had been film for a long time.
