IMTECH Traffic & Infra, Netherlands Abstract Copenhagen will be the first CO2 neutral capital in the world by 2025. The city council has taken the first important steps towards achieving this goal. As the transport sector counts for approximately 30% of all emissions, inevitably, the transport sector must contribute to the CO2 reduction. ITS and specifically Urban Traffic Management and Control opens new opportunities for reaching the goal through, amongst others, the improvement of public transport (PT) services. Concrete steps are taken in Copenhagen with the implementation of advanced public transport priority solutions as a part of various ITS projects. In this paper three projects are highlighted: Real-time adaptive traffic control with PT priority, dynamic handling of PT priority and cooperative PT priority.
