1. Introduction
• A note is a string of text placed at the bottom of a page in a book or
document or at the end of a chapter, volume or the whole text.
• It provides an authors comments on the main text or citations of a
reference work in support of the text, or both.
• A note is an important part of the paper, but it is not a necessity.

Interpreting

3. Types of notes
• In-text note
• Footnote
• Endnote
In-text note
• a notation inserted in bracket in the text right after the noted
contents
• indicating the writer, the book, or the title of the article, the
publishing house, page numbers, etc.
Footnote
• At the bottom of the page in a printed document presented in
smaller print than the dominant text
• Used for a variety of purposes
