This unit is about different languages around the world. As the first period of this unit, listening, speaking and pronunciation part is a speech, which is a little difficult for Senior1 students. The theme is “Explore languages around the world”. The speech is about the official languages of UN, the reasons of learning a foreign language; speaking part requires students to explore what language they want to learn and why; pronunciation part is about the differences between American English and British English.

To broaden students view: to get to know some famous symbols of foreign countries and their official languages; to get to know the official languages of UN; to listen and read the British English and American English.
To develop students’ ability of listening specific information and understanding what pronouns refer to in listening text.
To practise students’ oral English through group discussion and group presentation.
