The first part lies in the boy’s first secret love towards his friend’s sister with beautiful psychological waves. Intertwined with great conflicts, struggles and pains, his uncompromising efforts to purchase the gifts to his lover push the rising action towards the very crisis of his uncle’s forgetting to give the boy’s money not long before the climax is attained when in the deserted bazaar, the young lady pays no attention to his demand. Finally, the young hero walks down the bazaar with great despair and disappointment. When we attach much more importance to the characters in this fiction, the young, innocent, fanciful round character, with great despair and disappointment toward the adult’s drabness and vulgarity, could be billed as a typical spokesman for the difficult and hardship grown-up journey, transforming from dreamful, hopeful, pure adolescent life with great anger and anguish to the Dubliners’ adult life, featured by banality, vulgarity, numbness, and futility. As compared with the dynamic character, Mangan’s sister and his uncle could be comprehended as the other two flat characters to push the tale forward and make the fiction possible. On the one hand, his fiend’s sister, the beautiful pure girl, enchants the lad to do everything for her. In his part, she is both a saint to be worshipped and a woman to be desired. On the
