必修4 Module 1 In terviewer is a woma n, with a British acce nt. G is an America n architect. So where In terviewer: shall we be livi ng in twenty years time? Twenty years isnt a long time. We wont be living underground or in G: space. Well be liv ing in houses and flats just as we do today. In terviewer: What will the houses look like? I thi nk theyll look much the same as they do today, at least from G: the outside. But they will be differe nt in side. In terviewer: In what way? For a start, theyll be more flexible. That means well be able to move the walls to create bigger or smaller rooms whe n we want to. So the dining room and livi ng room as we know them would G: disappear. In terviewer: And the kitche n? The kitchen will become the most important room in the house! Well still be cook ing, and well probably be using the kitche n more G: as a family room. And bathrooms will be bigger. In terviewer: So well be spe nding more time in the bath. Just as other people have done in the past, like in the days of the G: an cie nt Roma ns, whe n the bath had an importa nt social function ... In terviewer: What about fur niture? Well, a lot of fur niture will be the same ——well still be sitti ng in chairs and using cupboards to keep things in, but the tech no logy will be differe nt. I thi nk a sin gle computer will con trol most of the fun cti ons G: in the house, and it will have a voice recognition system. So well just have to say Switch on the light! and the light comes In terviewer: on? G: Yes, thats right. And the tech no logy will be smarter. In terviewer: Smarter? Yes. For example, if we run out of someth in g, like theres no more milk left in the fridge, the computer will tell us. Maybe a shopp ing list would appear on a scree n on the fridge.
