The coming of Lantern Festival is various. Some people said that it isrelated with Buddha. When the Buddhas meditated, they need light in front ofthem, so the light can drive away monster for people. No matter what the story is,the traditional festival is favored by people and the government pays specialattention to remind this tradition.

One emperor heard thatBuddhist monks would watch sarira, or remains from the cremation of Buddha’sbody, and light lanterns to worship Buddha on the 15th day of the 1st lunarmonth, so he ordered to light lanterns in the imperial palace and temples toshow respect to Buddha on this day. Later, the Buddhist rite developed into agrand festival among common people and its influence expanded from the CentralPlains to the whole of China.
