10-1 New Shoes Mom looked down at Ben’s feet. “Your shoes have holes. It’s time to buy new shoes,” she said. She took Ben to the shoe store. Ben tried on many different shoes. He tried on brown ones and green ones, blue ones and black ones. In the end, they bought the green ones. “You did a good job buying shoes,” said Mom. “For a treat, let’s stop at the beach.” “Yay!” said Ben. “I will go barefoot!” “I love to go barefoot!” 10-2 One Little Seed, One Big Tree Kate really likes apples. She asks her teacher, “Where do apples come from?” “Apples grow on apple trees,” says her teacher. “Where do apple trees come from?” Kate asks again. “Apple trees come from apple seeds. Inside an apple, there are many little seeds. Each seed can grow into an apple tree,” her teacher says. Wow! From this little seed, a big apple tree will grow! “Big trees from little seeds!” 10-3 Grandma’s Cake On Saturday, I was helping Grandma bake a cake. While I was mixing, her cat jumped right into the bowl! Everything spilled all over us. When we finally cleaned it all up, we couldn’t find the cat! Where had she gone? There she was! She was lying on the floor while Grandma’s dog licked her clean. The dog got more cake than we did! “Oh my!” 10-4 Our Changing Teeth-1 Do you know that our teeth are changing as we grow? Around the age of eight months, our first teeth begin to grow. The middle teeth in the front of our mouth come first. Then, the teeth at the sides. And finally, the ones at the very back of the mouth. There are 20 teeth in total. These teeth are called baby teeth. But these teeth won’t be with us for long. “I only have four teeth.” 10-5 Our Changing Teeth-2 By the time we reach the age of seven, our baby teeth begin to fall out. First, the front middle teeth fall out. Then the teeth on the side, and finally the teeth at the back of our mouth. Don’t worry though. As our baby teeth fall out, new teeth grow to take their place. By our late teens, we will have all 32 of our adult teeth.
