As a young girl, Curie loved science and maths. She was also a good student and she wanted to attend college. But women weren’t allowed to go. So, Curie studied science and maths on her own. The other students knew more about science and maths than Curie did, so she worked hard in school. She ended up being the best student in her class. Some substances (物质) give off radioactivity. Curie wanted to find out more about it. She wondered where the energy came from. She also wondered what it could be used for in the world. In 1903, Curie got a special award, called the Nobel Prize, for her work with radioactivity. She was the first woman to receive a Nobel Prize.
