Any language not only embodies the customs, cultural habits, historical evolution and development of the race speaking that language, but also contains the philosophy, life style and way of thinking of that race. Simply put, different races, based on different social cultures and historical backgrounds, will produce different languages. It is also natural that compliments deriving from different cultural backgrounds will generate different patterns in terms of their use and responses. Meanwhile, as an adjacency pair, the coexistence of compliments and responses in turn reflects different cultural backgrounds. In other words, person complimented must respond — either accept or refuse. Under different cultural backgrounds, the contents, contexts and objects forms, concept of value, the principle of politeness of compliments and their responses differ.
