Some people think that traditionalc ulture can be destroyed by using it as
money -making attractions to tourists. However, others believe that it is the only way to save traditions. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
Tourism is developing at an e-vienrcreasing rate along with the heated discussion of
the impact it brings about on traditional culture. It is argued that commercial tourism damages the local customs, while others reckon that tourism development provides
the protection to traditions.
On the one hand, those who perceive the former view argue that cultural traditions
used for tourism purposes may devastate originalf eatures and culturali dentity.
Culture assimilation brought by foreign tourists might be the primary reason. To cater the visitors’ expectation and gain more profits, local operators tend to make changes, for example, branches of McDonald, Starbucks and Costa could be seen in many
historical sites of China. The attractions could easily lose the peculiarity but look like the same.
On the other hand, the opponents who support the latterv iew have theirsound reasons. First,e ntertainment facilitieasn d travelle-drirected servicest urn regions
into tourist destinations and help inhabitants earn money, which can be employed to protect and renovate the old architecture. Second, intangible cultural heritage can be popularized to a wider range of people by commercializing traditionavla lues.Y u
