Bill Buford (1950) is a staff writer for The New Yorker, where he was the fiction editor for eight years. He was the founding editor of Granta magazine and was also the publisher of Granta Books. His previous book, Among the Thugs, is a nonfiction account of crowd violence and British soccer hooliganism. He was generally considered one of the best fiction editors the magazine had ever known. In 2001, he was sent to Europe to become the magazine’s special correspondent. He lives in New York City with his wife, Jessica Green, and their two sons.

* Central Park
Central Park was built in 1857, this well-known park is, as the name suggests, located in the center of the Manhattan Island, New York. It extends from 59th Street to 110th Street between Fifth and Eighth Avenues. It covers an area of 840 acres. It is two and one-half miles long, a half mile wide, and almost one sixth of its 840s are in lakes and the large receiving reservoir of the New York City water-system. There are 35miles of walks, 104/1 miles road and five and one-half miles of bridle.
