Teaching objectives:

(1) To master some new words about people who need help.
(2) To understand the meanings of special groups of people.

(2) To learn to use the useful words and phrases to describe how to help the people in need.

(1) To cultivate students’ sympathy and the ability of taking care of others.

1. words: train, the Olympic Games, support, meaningful, blind, disabled, elderly, homeless, volunteer
2. phrases: need some more food to eat, at work, an elderly person, provide special places for homeless people to stay

(1) I’m training to be a volunteer for the Olympic Games.
(2) It’s meaningful to do something for the Olympic Games.

Step1: Guessing game (lead-in )
Show some pictures about “volunteers”, let the students guess:
What is he/ she? or What are they?
What can voluntees do? or What will they do?

Step2: Welcome to the unit
1. As we know, volunteers help the people in need, I’ll show the people who need help. Let’s look at the pictures. (learn the new words and explain some languang points)
List the new words on the blackboard, lead the students to read twice.
Let students to finsh PartA to help them master the words, and ask them to talk about the English meanings of these people. Make an example:
What are disabled people? The people can’t walk or lose their arms or legs.
Explain some language points:
A disabled person an elderly person
