《园会》的成长主题——劳拉的心理成长 摘要 《园会》是凯瑟琳?曼斯菲尔德代表作之一,评论家在死亡、现实与幻灭等主题方面做了详细的研究,而其成长主题鲜有提及。本文认为作者通过描写女主人公劳拉的心理状态及变化,表现了劳拉思想心理上的蜕变。所以本文的成长主题与一般意义上的成长主题有所不同。本文的成长主题体现在了女主人公劳拉心理的成长以及对社会阶级的认知。所以本文旨在通过分析劳拉的心理活动来探讨《园会》中的成长主题。 关键词: 《园会》,成长主题,心理变化,社会阶级认知, 阶级观念 On the Bildungsroman of “The Garden Party” : Laura’s Mental Growth Abstract “The Garden Party” is one of Katherine Mansfield’s representative works. Critics have made abundant researches in the theme of death, reality and disillusionment except bildungsroman on “The Garden Party”. This paper argues that the author expresses Laura’s metamorphosis in ideology and psychology by describing her psychological situation and changes. So the “bildungsroman” in this paper is different from its usual sense. The “bildungsroman” is about the psychological development of the protagonist, Laura and her cognition of social classes. The purpose of this paper is to explore the bildungsroman by analyzing Laura’s psychological activity. Key Words: “The Garden Party”, bildungsroman, psychological change, cognition of social classes; concept of class 1. Introduction 1.1 A Brief Introduction of Katherine Mansfield Katherine Mansfield (1888-1923) was an outstanding short story writer in modern English literature. She devoted all her life to short stories so that she’s called “The Master of Short Story”. However, she “is becoming universal ”[1](p.1) was after her own death. And up to now, still few people has ever been acquainted with her, but we can’t deny her contribution to the modern literature. Mansfield was a New Zealander and born in a middle-class family. Her father was one of the shareholders in an import company. And because of open educational environment, she could come into contact with people from different social classes which also affected her literary creation afterwards. Mansfield’s eccentric character caused her relationship with other people was not good which also continued into her adult life. Nevertheless, she loved reading and has
