A Notting Hill Carnival This is one of the biggest street festivals in Europe. It takes place on Sunday and Monday at the end of August. It was first held back in 1964 by a woman named Rhaune Laslett who wanted to bring together different classes of people in the city. It soon became a big celebration of the Caribbean（加勒比的）culture in London and has continued to grow. This colorful festival has lots of dancing, live music, and delicious food! Bonfire Night On November 5, 1605, a man by the name of Guy Fawkes tried to kill King James I. Now, on this day each year, people of the UK celebrate his failed action. To celebrate, locals will light fires all around the city. Chinese New Year Did you know that outside of Asia, London has the largest Chinese New Year celebrations? The celebrations take place in Chinatown, Trafalgar Square and across the West End. A parade （游行） kicks off on Charing Cross Road and makes its way down Shaftesbury Avenue to Chinatown. The parade usually starts at 10:00 am, with other activities continuing into the early evening. Family- friendly activities can be found in Leicester Square. Totally Thames / Mayor Thames Festival This festival, which takes place in September, is a big celebration for the River Thames! Totally Thames is a month-long celebration full of races along the river and lots of artistic, cultural, environmental, and sporting events all along the river.
