Attributive Clauses Instructor: Target students: Senior 1 students Students background knowledge Students have learned about some basic rules and structures of attributive clauses in junior high school. Teaching objectives: Students will be able to 1) describe things, people, places and time using simple attributive clauses. 2) properly use relative pronouns and relative adverbs in attributive clauses 3) show more interest in Chinese traditional culture Teaching activities: Leading-in: Instructor’s short introduction to this lesson (Some guides are needed for a Chinese traditional culture showcase. The task of this lesson is to prepare Ss to be qualified guides.) Warming-up: Reviewing some basic structures of attributive clauses To check whether Ss have a good knowledge of Chinese traditional culture as a guide, instructor presents some riddles on the screen and ask Ss to solve them(All the riddles are sentences with attributive clauses, introducing objects and people). Then instructor explains and emphasizes the basic usage and rule of attributive clauses to Ss. Next, to test whether they have mastered the basic rules, instructor presents the riddles(in a different order) again with all the relative pronouns missing. Ask Ss to give the missing words. Finally, remind Ss to pay attention to the structures of attributive clauses to learned in this lesson and write them down on the handout, following the example given by the instructor. Task 1: Practising introducing things and people using attributive clauses Step 1 Instructor shows Ss three Chinese traditional objects (爵、鞋拔子、红包) and ask Ss to introduce them with attributive clauses. Step 2 Instructor presents some pictures of people(秦始皇、林黛玉、岳飞) on the screen, and ask Ss to introduce them with attributive clauses.
