试论元人小令的英译 The Little Commandment of the Person The person in traditional Chinese culture was not only limited by the physical body but also extended to the educational system, family system, interpersonal relationship and religious beliefs, which included a unique set of rules called the Little Commandment of the Person. The respecting of the high-ranking and honoring of the elders was one of the most important commandments. To the people in ancient China, filial piety was in the very foundation of their principles, and it was obligatory to be obedient and serve the elders as a dedication to their ancestors. They believed that a person must learn to behave humbly and respect the elderly, and whoever failed to do so would incur evil luck.
