Possible questions: What functions and abilities do we associate with the brain? What do you know about the anatomy and structure of the brain? What do you think about the relationship between the brain and the mind, consciousness, intelligence, etc.? What are some common misconceptions or myths about the brain? 2. Vocabulary preview Brainstorm a list of vocabulary related to the brain. Introduce or review the meanings of these words and phrases, such as neuron, synapse, cortex, hemisphere, lobes, dendrite, axon, myelin, neurotransmitter, plasticity, cognition, perception, emotion, memory, consciousness, etc. Encourage students to make connections between these terms and their previous knowledge of the brain. Part 2 Reading and comprehension 1. Skimming Ask students to quickly read through the text and identify its main idea or topic. They may use the title, headings, introduction, and conclusion to guide their understanding. Then ask them to share their findings and compare them with their pre-reading ideas. 2. Scanning Ask students to read the text again and find specific information or details about the brain. Prepare some questions or statements to test their scanning skills, such as: What are the functions of the cerebral cortex? How does a neuron work? What is the difference between the left and right hemispheres of the brain? What is the role of dopamine in reward and motivation? What are some examples of brain plasticity? What are some brain disorders that can affect cognition, emotion, or memory? What are the implications of brain research for education, psychology, philosophy, or society? 3. Understanding complex sentences The text contains many long and complex sentences that may challenge some students reading comprehension. Therefore, it is important to help them parse these sentences and un
