A detailed redescription of Paraboreochlus okinawanus Kobayshi Kuranishi is presented. A key to the males in this genus worldwide and a distribution map are given. Key words: Nematocera; Culicoidea; taxonomy; key CLC number: Q969.44+2.6 Document code: A Article ID: 1000-7482(2013)01-0073-05 寡脉摇蚊亚科中国新记录属——近北摇蚊属记述（双翅目：摇蚊科） Introduction The Podonominae is a subfamily including a comparatively limited number of about 170 known species in 15 genera in the Chironomidae (Ashe O’Connor 2009). Podonominae have a bipolar distribution and the immatures live in cool springs and creeks (Brundin 1966). However they are more diverse in the southern hemisphere with at least 86% described species collected from temperate transantarctic regions (Brundin 1983). The Podonominae is divided into two tribes, Boreochlini and Podonomini (Brundin 1966). The genus Paraboreochlus was erected by Thienemann in 1939 belonging to Boreochlini. Brundin (1976) recognized that the nearest known relative of Paraboreochlus may be a 130 million year old species found in the Neocomian amber of Lebanon: Libanochlus neocomicus Brundin, 1976.
