Learning Objectives By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: - Understand the meaning of the modal verbs should and shouldnt - Use these modal verbs to give advice - Use example situations to practice using these modal verbs III. Anticipatory Set - Ask students if they have any advice to give each other about studying English. - Discuss together any advice that they have received in the past. - Introduce the modal verbs should and shouldnt and begin to display them on the whiteboard. IV. Input - Explain the meaning of should and shouldnt to the class. - Give example sentences of both modal verbs. - Write example sentences on the whiteboard to demonstrate the differences between should and shouldnt. V. Guided Practice - Provide students with a worksheet that has sentences with blanks that they must fill in with either should or shouldnt. - Instruct students to complete the worksheet with a partner. - Go over worksheet answers with the class and discuss any questions they may have. VI. Independent Practice - Instruct students to create a short skit or scenario that demonstrates the use of should or shouldnt. - Working in small groups, students should write out their dialogue and then perform it for the class. - Class discussion should follow to review the skits, discussing how effective they were in exhibiting the use of the modal verbs.
