中英硕士学位论文英文摘要中人际意义的对比研究的开题报告 Title: A Comparative Study on Interpersonal Meanings in English and Chinese Masters Theses Abstracts Background and Significance: In recent years, the international community has seen a growing demand for cross-cultural communication and understanding. Masters theses abstracts serve as important communicative tools to bridge the cultural gap and facilitate scientific exchange. Interpersonal meanings, which refer to the way speakers position themselves and their points of view in relation to others, are a key aspect of academic discourse. However, little research has been conducted on how interpersonal meanings are realized in English and Chinese masters theses abstracts. Research Questions: 1. How do English and Chinese masters theses abstracts differ in their realization of interpersonal meanings? 2. What are the implications of these differences for cross-cultural communication and understanding? Methodology: This study will employ a corpus-based comparative approach, using both quantitative and qualitative analysis. The corpus will consist of 50 English and 50 Chinese masters theses abstracts randomly selected from a variety of disciplines. The analysis will focus on three main aspects of interpersonal meanings: stance, attitude and engagement. Expected Results: Based on previous research, we hypothesize that Chinese masters theses abstracts are likely to have a higher frequency of collective stance and less personal engagement, whereas English masters theses abstracts are likely to have a higher frequency of individual stance and more personal engagement. The results of this study will contribute to a better understanding of cross-cultural communication and provide insights for academic writing and language instruction.
