Lead-in: - Ask students if they know what modal verbs are. - Explain that modal verbs are used to express ability, possibility, permission, etc. - Write the meaning, form, and examples of the modal verbs can and might on the board. Presentation: 1. Explain the use of can to express ability and might to express possibility. - Can: ability in the present or general ability. - Might: possibility or uncertainty about the future. 2. Give examples sentences using can and might to make it clear to students. - For example: - I can swim. - He can play the piano. - She might come to the party. - I might go shopping tomorrow. 3. Provide additional practice using modal verbs. - Ask students to think of sentences using can and might to express ability and possibility. Practice: 1. Controlled practice using gap-fill exercises. - Provide students with a worksheet containing sentences with gaps that need to be filled with the correct modal verbs. - Monitor students progress and provide assistance. - Check answers as a class. 2.
