台州市中职学生英语词汇学习策略运用的实证研究的中期报告 Abstract Vocabulary learning is essential for English language learners, especially for vocational students who need to use professional English in their future work. However, many of them encounter difficulties in expanding their vocabulary due to a lack of effective vocabulary learning strategies. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effectiveness of vocabulary learning strategies for vocational students in Taizhou City. This mid-term report summarizes the research background, objectives, research questions, methods, and preliminary results of the study. Key Words: vocabulary learning strategies, vocational students, Taizhou City Introduction Vocabulary is a fundamental part of language learning and is essential for communicative competence. In learning a second language, there are many factors that contribute to effective vocabulary learning, such as personal motivation, learning environment, and learning strategies (Schmitt, 2000). However, for vocational students who need to use professional English in their future work, vocabulary learning becomes more challenging as they are required to learn technical terms and jargon related to their field of study. The purpose of this study is to explore the effectiveness of vocabulary learning strategies for vocational students in Taizhou City and to provide suggestions for improving their vocabulary learning. This mid-term report provides an overview of the research background, objectives, research questions, methods, and preliminary results of the study. Research Background Vocational education in China is becoming increasingly popular. As a result, vocational students need to acquire English language proficiency to meet the demands of global job markets. However, English language education for vocational students in China has been criticized for its emphasis on grammar and writing skills, with inadequate attention given to vocabulary learning (Xu, 2017).
