英汉儿童自语现象对比研究的中期报告 Introduction 英汉儿童自语现象对比研究的中期报告 (A Comparative Study of Childrens Self-talk in English and Chinese) is a research paper that aims to analyze and compare childrens self-talk in English and Chinese. The study was conducted to achieve two main objectives: (1) to identify the patterns and types of self-talk used by English- and Chinese-speaking children and (2) to examine the factors that influence the use of self-talk in both languages. In this report, we present the findings of our study so far, including the methodology, data analysis, and results. Methodology This study used a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis. A total of 40 participants were recruited for the study, of which half spoke English and half spoke Chinese. The children ranged in age from six to eight years old and were selected from two primary schools in urban areas. The study was conducted over a period of six months, during which data were collected through the following methods: 1. Observation: Researcher observed children engaged in various tasks, including reading, writing, and playing. 2. Interviews: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with each participant. The interviews were aimed at exploring childrens perceptions of self-talk, its purpose, and frequency of use. 3. Audio recordings: Audio recordings were made of the children engaged in different tasks. These were transcribed and analyzed to identify patterns of self-talk. Results The results of our study show that both English- and Chinese-speaking children use self-talk, but in different ways. Chinese-speaking children were found to use self-talk more frequently than English-speaking children, and they were more likely to use it to regulate their behavior and emotions. English-speaking children, on the other hand, were more likely to use self-talk to learn new information and engage in planning and problem-solving activities. In terms of the types of self-talk us
