2002年考研英语真题及彻底解析
2002年考研英语真题及彻底解析Directions: Read the following text carefully and then translate the underlined segments into Chinese. Your translation should be written neatly on the ANSWER SHEET. (10 points)Every society in the modern world is confronted with a problem of how to deal with the itinerant. They arrive in cities, parading in streets, playing music, performing acrobatics, cleaning shoes, selling shoelaces or gum, begging for alms, singing and dancing for laughter. Some believe that these people, who insert themselves into the lives of others so shamelessly, should be driven away from decent society, for they are truly a nuisance and a blemish. Others maintain that these people stand up as a mirror to the rest of us, making us see what we are afraid to see in ourselves.Mostly, they are both. These unwelcome visitors burst into our lives, break our peace, and remind us of the existence of human poverty. They embarrass us with our own fear, our deep distaste for our fellow beings, and our feeling of superiority. We live in a world made up of what we exclude as well as what we include. The creators of the Elysian Fields, the rich, the aristocrats, the fashionable, the educated professionals, have excluded a segment of society from their lives. There do not have to be gates to separate them, for they create many appearance outlets or these who do not wish to be seen or become involved with the itinerant. If we admit to the irritation the visitors cause us, we must also take time to ask what conditions can create such alienation. Whether vacuous waste, shocking poverty or the splendors of the most beautiful, it is all our world. These alienated ones should teach us a great deal about the human capacity to estrange, to exclude, to withdraw from, and to stereotype others different from ourselves. They should jolt us to question our own sense of power, prerogative; clannishness or superiority; above all, our unwillingness to listen without judgment. F
