Methodology:

ThestudywillinvolveacorpusanalysisofthewrittenworkofChinesestudentsofdifferentEnglishproficiencylevels.Atotalof100essayswillbecollectedfromstudentsatauniversityinChina,dividedevenlybetweenthreeproficiencylevels:beginner,intermediate,andadvanced.Thecollectedessayswillbeanalyzedusingacorpussoftwareprogramtoidentifythemostfrequentlyusedfour-wordphrases,theircollocations,andtheircontextualmeanings.Bothquantitativeandqualitativedatawillbecollectedandanalyzed.
