Abstract

Thispaperaimstoexplorehowtoguidestudentstoadvancetheirwritingskillsthroughpromotingforegrounding,macro-structurethinkingandskillfulargumentativeessaywriting.Byintegratingdiscourseanalysisandteachingpractice,thispaperprovidesaninvestigationandteachingexplorationofforegrounding,macro-structurethinkingandargumentativeessaywritinginEnglishwritingforcollegestudents.Afteriterativelyreviewingrelevantliteratureandpractice-basedexperience,thispaperdiscussesthedefinitionofforegrounding,fourtypesofforegroundingandvariousimplementationmethods.Itthenaddressestheconceptofmacro-structuralthinking,basicelementsofmacro-structureandhowtoimplementmacro-structuralthinking.Finally,thispaperalsodiscussesthecharacteristicsandwritingmethodsofargumentativeessaystructure,aswellasadetaileddescriptionofhowtoincorporatethesestrategiesintoEnglishwritinginstruction.Basedontheexplorationoftheseareas,thispaperwillprovidepedagogicalsuggestionsforEnglishwritinginstructionincollegesanduniversities.
