    5Gisdesignedtosupportcommunicationservices.Specifically,itsupportsthethreecommunication

    usagescenariosincludingeMBB(EnhancedMobileBroadband),URLLC(Ultra-ReliableLow-Latency

    Communications),andmMTC(MassiveMachineTypeCommunication).Thefirstreleaseof5Gnewradio

    (Release15)doesnotconsidersensingservices.Theenhancedreleaseof5Gnewradio(Release16)starts

    tosupportUEpositioningservicesbasedonLMF(LocationManagementFunction).However,thescope

    of5Gsensingisrelativelylimited.5Gonlysupportsthesensingofthelocationofactivedevicessuchas

    UEs,anddoesnotprovidethesensingofthespeed,direction,material,imaging,etc.ofpassiveobjects.

    Newservicesofthefuture,includingimmersiveXR(ExtendedReality),holographictelepresence,

    interactive3Dvirtualdigitalhumans,collaborativerobotics,autonomousdriving,multisensory

    connectivity,andevenmetaverse,placehighdemandsoncommunication,sensing,andcomputing.

    For6G,theroleplayedbymobilecommunicationsystemswillchange.Inadditiontoinformation

    transmitter,6Gwillalsoplaytheroleofinformationproducerandinformationprocessor.The

    informationproducerismainlyrealizedbyprovidingsensingservices,whiletheinformationprocessor

    isrealizedbyprovidingcomputingservices.AsdepictedinFigure1-1,6Gwillbecomethenetwork

    informationcornerstonetosupporttheefficientandsustainabledevelopmentofthefuturesociety,

    enablingcolorfulnewservicesinthefuture.
