Theproductionoffattyacids,sterolsanda-tocopherolbyIsochrysis

galbanaunder24hand8hlightingwasstudied.Themostabundantfattyacids

were14:0,16:0,16:1,18:403,20:503and22:6w3.Higheraccumulationof

monounsaturatedfattyacidswasobservedinthedecayphasewhereasinthelag

phasepolyunsaturatedfattyacids(PUFA)werethemajorgroup.Theshorter

lightperiodseemedtoreasetheproductionofPUFA.Sitosteroland

stigmasterolwerethetwomainsterolsdetectedachievingthelevels246.3and

220.0mg/lOOg,respectively.Acontinuousreaseintheleveloftotalsterols

wasrecordedduringthelifecycleat24hlighting.Thereductionofthe

photoperiodledtoadecreaseinthetotalsterolsproducedinthedecayphase.

Anreaseina-tocopherolproductionduringthelifecyclewasrecorded.The

reductionofthelightingperiodconsiderablydecreasedthebiosynthesisofthis

antioxidant.

class,orderIsochrysidales,whichiscommoninEuropeanseas,particularlythe
