Thishalfsemesterclasswillpresentanintroductiontomacroeconomicmodeling,fo-
cusingonthetheoryofeconomicgrowthandsomeofitsapplications.Itwillintroducea
numberofmodelsofnonstochasticandstochasticmacroeconomicequilibrium.Itwilluse
thesemodelstoshedlightbothontheprocessofeconomicgrowthattheworldleveland
onsourcesofomeandgrowthdi§erencesacrosscountries.
Thecoursehasanumberofobjectives:theÖrstistofamiliarizeyouwithasetofissues
andquestionsthatarecentraltomacroeconomics,andthatarealso(hopefully)exciting
andimportant;thesecondistodevelopsomeofthemostimportanttoolsofdynamic
economicsusefulinmacroeconomicsaswellasinanumberofothersubdisciplinesofeco-
nomicsludinggeneralequilibriumtheory,politicaleconomy,industrialorganizationand
contracttheory;andÖnalobjectivetoprovideyouwithanumberofworkhorsemodels
usefulinmultipleareasofmacroeconomics.
