Background:

WanzhoudialectisalocaldialectspokeninWanzhouDistrict,Chongqing,China.Itisoneofthesub-dialectsoftheSichuanesedialect,whichbelongstothesouthwesternMandarindialectgroup.Asaregionaldialect,theWanzhoudialecthasmanyuniquefeatures,includingitsinterrogativesentences.InterrogativesentencesinWanzhoudialectgenerallyhaveaquestioningtone,andmanyofthemendwithahighrisingtone.However,thepatternsandstructuresofinterrogativesentencesinWanzhoudialectarenotwell-documented.Therefore,astudyoninterrogativesentencesintheWanzhoudialectisneededtofurtherunderstandthedialectanditscharacteristics.

Researchquestions:

1.WhatarethecommonpatternsandstructuresofinterrogativesentencesintheWanzhoudialect?

2.HowdointerrogativesentencesintheWanzhoudialectdifferfromstandardMandarininterrogativesentences?

3.HowareinterrogativesentencesusedindailycommunicationamongWanzhoudialectspeakers?

Researchmethods:

Thestudywillmakeuseofvariousmethods,includinginterviews,surveys,andlinguisticanalysis.ThestudywillstartbyconductinginterviewswithWanzhoudialectspeakerstocollectdataontheiruseofinterrogativesentences.Asurveywillalsobeconductedtogatherinformationonthecommonpatternsandstructuresofinterrogativesentencesinthedialect.ThecollecteddatawillbeanalyzedusingquantitativeandqualitativemethodstoidentifythecommonpatternsandstructuresofinterrogativesentencesinWanzhoudialect.AlinguisticanalysiswillalsobeconductedtocompareinterrogativesentencesinWanzhoudialecttostandardMandarininterrogativesentences.
