    Abstract—Inthispaper,anenginefaultdetectionandclassifi-TrainingofanANNisachievedusingdatasetsthatrepresents

    cationtechniqueusingvibrationdatainthecrankangledomainaspecificinput–outputmapping.Itistypicallyimplemented

    ispresented.Thesedataareusedinconjunctionwithartificialinapplicationssuchasautomaticvehiclecontrol[2],pat-

    neuralnetworks(ANNs),whichareappliedtodetectfaultsin

    afour-strokegasolineenginebuiltforexperimentation.Acom-ternrecognition[3],[4],functionapproximation,androbotic

    parativestudyisprovidedbetweenthepopularbackpropagationapplications[5].

    (BP)method,theLevenberg–Marquardt(LM)method,thequasi-Faultdetectionandisolation(FDI)techniquesareusedfor

    Newton(QN)method,theextendedKalmanfilter(EKF),andthedetectingfaultconditionsandisolatingthem.Therefore,FDI

    smoothvariablestructurefilter(SVSF).TheSVSFisarelativelyplaysanimportantroleinmodernengineeringsystemsdue

    newestimationstrategy,basedontheslidingmodeconcept.Ithas

    beenformulatedtoefficientlytrainANNsandisconsequentlyre-toincreasingdemandforsafetyandreliability,particularly

    ferredtoastheSVSF-ANN.Theaccuracyoftheproposedmethod
