Objective:Weaimedtoevaluatetherelationshipofplasma25-hydroxyvitaminD3(25[OH]D3)withtheriskofnew-onsetproteinuria

andexaminethepossibleeffectmodifiersinpatientswithhypertensionandwithoutchronickidneydiseaseatbaseline.

Methods:ThisisaposthocanalysisoftherenalsubstudyoftheChinaStrokePrimaryPreventionTrial.Atotalof1655patientswith

hypertension,whohadplasma25(OH)D3measurements,aswellaswithoutproteinuriaandwithanestimatedglomerularfiltrationrateof

$60mL/min/1.73m2atbaseline,wereincludedinthepresentstudy.Themainoutcomewasnew-onsetproteinuria,definedasaurine

dipstickreadingof$11attheexitvisit.

Results:Themean(standarddeviation)25(OH)D3levelatbaselinewas18.6(7.5)ng/mL.Themedianfollow-updurationwas4.4years.

Overall,therewasasignificantinverseassociationbetweenplasma25(OH)D3andtheriskofnew-onsetproteinuria(perstandardde-

viationincrement;[oddsratio]OR:0.70;95%confidenceinterval[CI]:0.50,0.97).Accordingly,when25(OH)D3wasassessedasquar-
