1.Introduction
Energyconservationmeasure(ECM)isapracticeconductedinabuildingforthepurposeofreducingenergyconsumptioncausedbytheelectricalsystemssuchaslighting,heating,ventilationandairconditioningsystems.ECMisalsoawaytodetermineseveralpotentialalternativesforreducingenergyconsumptionanddecidingwhichalternativesmustbeimplemented.Energyconservationmustbedonewithoutsacrificingthecomfortoftheoccupantsinthebuilding.ECMshavebeenimplementedwidelyinbuildingsforenergysavinginitiativesintherecentyears.ECMscanbecategorizedbasedontheamountoffinancialinvestmentinvolvedinitsimplementations:zeroinvestment,minorinvestmentandmajorinvestment.TherearetwobasicwaysofconservingenergyusingtheECMapproach.Thefirstmethodinvolvesphysicalalterationsoradditionstotheexistingsysteminthebuildingsuchascompletesystemreplacementsorinstallationofsensorsforlightingsystem,andthesecondmethodrequiresonlychangestotheoperationofthesystemsuchasscheduledlightingsorairconditioningoperatingtimes.
Sincetheuseofheating,ventilationandairconditioning(HVAC)systemaccountsforoneofthehighestpercentageofenergyuseinabuilding,ECMforHVACsystemsisapopularresearchtopicandhasattractedmanybuildingownersintheirefforttominimizethebuildingsenergyconsumption.ECMsonHVACsystemsalsoresultinthehighestenergysavingpotentialcomparedtoitsappl
