Thepaperwasmadeupof50objectivetestquestions,eachworthtwomarks.Eachquestionpresentedfour
choices,ofwhichonewascorrect.Candidateswererequiredtoanswerallofthequestionsonthepaperintwo
hours.Thequestionswereevenlyspreadacrossthesyllabus,witheithereightorninequestionsfromeachofthe
sixsyllabusareas.
Candidatesperformedstronglyonmostquestionsrelatingtomanagementtheories,andtherewerehighpass
ratesforquestionsonMcGregor’stheoryXandY,Adair’sfunctionalleadershipmodel,communicationsmodels,
Mintzberg’stheoryandHofstede’stheoryonculture.Thiswasimpressive,ascandidateshavetoremember
manyfactsinrelationtoaconsiderablenumberoftheories,anditwouldnotbepossibletoansweranyofthese
questionswithoutformalstudy.
Questionsoneconomics,marketingandethicscausedfewdifficulties.Thepassratesforquestionsrelatingto
accountingsubjectsweresatisfactory,andcandidatesseemedwellpreparedindealingwithquestionson
budgetarycontrol,,moneylaunderingandaudit.
Thesubjectsthatposedgreatestdifficultywerediversity(inthecontextofemploymentpractices),thetypesof
questionsthatcanbeusedininterviewsituations,corporateernance,sustainability,internationalaccounting
standards,Kolb’slearningtheoryandPorter’sfivesmodel.Aquestionthataskedcandidatestoidentifya
typeofreportthatwouldhelptheorganisationassesstheeffectivenessofanincreaseinexpenditureonafter-
salesservicecausedconsiderableproblems,andthisisdiscussedingreaterdetaillaterinthisreport.
