.Emergingresearchdemonstratesthepotentialofprotein-
proteininteraction(PPI)networksinuncoveringthemechanisticbases
ofcancers,throughidentificationofinteractingproteinsthatareco-
ordinatelydysregulatedintumorigenicandmetastaticsamples.When
usedasfeaturesforclassification,suchcoordinatelydysregulatedsub-
networksimprovediagnosisandprognosisofcancerconsiderablyover
single-genemarkers.However,existingmethodsformulatecoordination
betweenmultiplegenesthroughadditiverepresentationoftheirexpres-
sionprofilesandutilizegreedyheuristicstoidentifydysregulatedsub-
networks,whichmaynotbewellsuitedtothepotentiallycombinatorial
natureofcoordinatedysregulation.Here,weproposeacombinatorial
formulationofcoordinatedysregulationanddecomposetheresultingob-
jectivefunctiontocasttheproblemasoneofidentifyingsubnetwork
statefunctionsthatareindicativeofphenotype.Basedonthisformula-
tion,weshowthatcoordinatedysregulationoflargersubnetworks
