FEMALEPROFESSOR:Well,untilnowthatswhattheevidenceseemedtosuggest.I

mean,wehadsomeevidencethatsuggestedthattheEgyptiansweremakingglass

objects,uh,butnotglass.

MALESTUDENT:OK,am-amImissingsomething?Theyremakingglass,buttheyre

notmakingglass.

FEMALEPROFESSOR:Isaidtheyweremakingglassobjects,right?Yousee,itwas

previouslythoughtthattheywerentactuallymakingtherawglassitself,thatthey

wereimportingunfinishedglassfromMesopotamia—um,whichtodayisaregion

consistingofIraq,andpartsofSyria,Turkey,andIran—andsimplyreworkingit.Most

archeologistsbelievedthattheglassfactorieswereinMesopotamiabecausethats

wheretheoldestknownglassremainscomefrom.Yousee,thereweretwostagesof
