1.0DESCRIPTION

TheNICisamicroprocessor-basedcontrolcomputerthatisintegraltotheMRIGradient

DriveSystem.TheNICcanreceiveandactoncommandsfromtheusershostcomputer

orfromaterminal.CommunicationwithusersequipmentisaccomplishedviaanRS-232

serialport.TheNICcommunicateswiththesystemamplifierandpowersupplymodules

throughasystem-wideI2Cserialbus.Eachsystemmoduleonthebusrespondstoa

preassignednetworkaddress.A2-line,40-characterbacklitLCDdisplayonthechassis

frontpaneldisplaysstatusandfaultinformationfromtheNIC.Startupdiagnosticscheck

on-boardcomponentsandfirmwareoneverysystempower-onorreset(hardorsoft).The

NICismountedbehindandisintegraltothetop-mostfrontpanel(behindtheLCD

display).
