TheChinesegovernmentraisedtheprotectionlevelofChinesepangolins(穿山甲)tothetoplevelonWorldEnvironmentDay—June5th.Pangolinsusedtobeatthesecondlevelundernationalprotection.Thisactmakespeoplepaymoreattentiontoecologicalcivilization(生态文明).Italsoshowsourgreatdeterminationtofightagainsttheillegalhunting(非法捕猎)andthetradingofwildanimalsandotherthingsmadefromthem.

Accordingtoanationalwildlifestudyinthe1990s,therewereabout60,000Chinesepangolinsin11provinces,includingYunnan,Hunan,Guangdong,SichuanandZhejiang.Untilnow,pangolinshavebecomefewerandfewerbecauseofthelivingplacesthatarebeingdestroyed,crazyhuntingandsmuggling.In2017,ChinesepangolinswereplacedontheRedLisofThreatenedSpeciesafterateamofexpertsbelievedtheirnumberhaddroppedby90percentinthepastyears.

“Thevalueofpangolinstotheecosystemismuchmorethanthevalueoftheirmeatorscales(鳞).Thereisalongwaytogoinprotectingthem,butwecanstartbysayingnotothingsmadefromthem,”saidZhouFei,chiefprogramofficeroftheWorldWildlifeFundofChina.
