JoiningtheWTOmeantChinaneededtofollowglobaltraderuleswhileopeningupitsmarkettotheworld,saidLongYongtu,China’sformerchiefnegotiator(首席谈判代表)forWTOentry.

Forexample,theWTOcallsforcuttingorevenremovingtariffs(关税)betweencountries.Atariffisataxplacedonimpotedorexportedgoodsastheygofromonecountrytoanother.Inaddition,WTOentrymeansChinesecompaniesdirectlyfaceglobalcompetition.

AfterjoiningtheWTO,Chinahasworkedhardtobeinlinewithglobaltraderulesinallareas.Toopenitsmarket,China’starifflevelwasdroppedto7.4percentfrom15.3percentin2001.Chinahasalsorevised(修改)morethan2,300lawsandrules,coveringtradeandinvestment(投资).

Atthesametime,Chinahasbecomeamajortradepartnerofmorethan120countries.Ithascontributednearly30percenttothegrowthoftheworld’seconomyeveryyear.
