2IntroductionThisGenerativeArtificialIntelligence(GenAI)MaturityToolisintendedtoserveasastartingpointforschooldistrictstointelligentlyandthoughtfullyimplementAItechnologiesthatalignwithinstructionalandoperationalobjectives.ThistoolbuildsonTheAIReadinessChecklistasdescribedbelow.Wehopeyoufinditusefulandinformative.ReadinessChecklistTheCounciloftheGreatCitySchools(CGCS)andCoSN-ConsortiumforSchoolNetworkingworkedinpartnershipwithAmazonWebServices(AWS)todevelopaK-12GenerativeAI(GenAI)ReadinessChecklistQuestionnaire.ThequestionnairewasdesignedtoguideK-12schooldistrictsinunderstandingkeyfactorstoconsiderbeforeimplementingGenAItechnologies.Whilenotanexhaustivereadinessassessment,thechecklistservedasapreliminarytoolfordistrictleaders—includingsuperintendents,districtleaders,andtechnologyexperts—toevaluatethesafety,privacy,security,andethicalimplicationsofusingGenAI.Thegoalistohelpdistrictsprepareadequately,ensuredataprivacyandsecurity,andavoidbiasoralgorithmicdiscriminationwhilegainingafoundationalunderstandingoftherelatedtacticalconsiderations.K-12GenAIMaturityToolOurnextphaseisbuiltuponthefoundationalconsiderationsoutlinedinthechecklist.TheK-12GenAIMaturityToolisamorecomprehensivetoolallowingdistrictstoself-evaluatetheirmaturityinimplementingGenAItechnologies.ThistoolwillhelpdistrictsidentifytheirmaturitylevelintermsofGenAIreadinessandpinpointspecificareasthatrequirefurtherattentionandinvestmenttoensurethesafeandsecureadoptionofthistransformativetechnology.WehopethatschooldistrictswillfindtheK-12GenAIMaturityToolbothusefulandinformative.Thistoolisintendedtoserveasastartingpointforschooldistrictstointelligentlyand
